IoT, AI and Domain Expertise

At its core, an IoT AI model is based on data with a timestamp and which is highly structured, repetitive and uniform in format. In some cases, additional context, such as maintenance reports or operational logs, can be incorporated to enrich the data landscape.

Unlike large and general purpose AI systems like Large Language Models (LLMs), which require vast and diverse datasets along with high-powered infrastructure, IoT-based AI models are typically very small and more specialized. These custom models are relatively easy and inexpensive to build and train, often requiring no more than a costeffective cloud environment, eliminating the need for high-end GPUs or specialized hardware.

The Limitations and Opportunities of Small AI Models
While small scale AI models are efficient and affordable, they often offer limited value if built purely on data. The true potential of these models is unlocked when they are infused with domain specific knowledge typically held by human experts. Integrating this expert insight into the model or into the processes surrounding it significantly enhances the model's performance and relevance.

Bridging Data and Expertise
IOT APPS develops IoT platforms that empower customers and their domain experts to contribute their knowledge through intuitive, purpose-built web interfaces. These interfaces allow stakeholders to embed specific operational insights directly into the system, enabling smarter outcomes in areas like:

  • Process optimization
  • Predictive instead of preventative maintenance
  • Cost control and efficiency
  • Improvements of device performance for end users

  • in all kinds of industries.
The platforms are built with simplicity and user friendlyness in mind. It uses web interfaces accessible to all stakeholders, and no data analytics or business intelligence (BI) expertise is required to interact with the platforms.

    In Summary
IOT APPS enables organizations to harness not only data-driven intelligence from IoT sources but also the valuable knowledge of domain experts. This dual approach results in an enhanced IoT Platform without the complexity and cost of traditional AI powered solutions built on top of LLM's.

IOT APPS is an initiative of PhaseFour from Eindhoven. All IOT APPS activities are carried out by PhaseFour employees.
