IoT Mobile Apps
Smartphone apps
A mobile app is often an indispensable part of an IOT concept. Specific functionalities of an IoT mobile app can be:
- settings, updates
- control, monitoring, readout
With a mobile app people quickly think of the User Interface, which of course often is the eye-catcher. But especially with IOT applications the app also performs functions in the background, without direct involvement of the user. It is of course the intention that the device and the app work in line with the wishes of the user , even without his direct interaction.
Bluetooth Low Energy
The connection between the mobile phone and an IOT device is usually made via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) , either adhoc for reading data or via a dedicated connection in case of a more intens interaction between the phone and the devices.
Bluetooth Mesh
A relatively new standard is Bluetooth SIG Mesh, which is completely based on Bluetooth Low Energy. In short, Bluetooth Mesh makes it possible for devices to communicate with each other. This application is rapidly gaining popularity especially in Lighting and building management, but also increasingly beyond that. We develop ‘provisioning’ apps for configuration (provisioning or commissioning) of mesh networks as ‘controller’ apps for end user control functionality, Including online configuration management.
The Bluetooth Mesh standard is gining popularity over older proprietary Bluetooth Mesh solutions as Casambi, Wirepass and various others. These proprietary solutions work well, but are not compatible with Bluetooth SIG Mesh standaard and therefor with a vendor lock-in.
We would be happy to share our extensive knowledge and experience in the field of the development of mobile apps in relation to connection with the environment and the role that Bluetooth could play in this. If you want to go deeper into the matter, wether or not in relation to your case, please call us for an appointment
iOS and Android
We usually develop native apps since for IOT applications we often want to tailor Bluetooth and data communication in backgroud processes for seamless operation. This also might be achieved in hybrid applications wich then require naive components. If wanted we can take care of development up to the publishing in the Apple app store or Google play store. Next to the standard publishing we can also provide or supervise alternative publishing methods.
